Harlow Glass Completes Window Installation at Former Blind Veterans Hospital

Harlow Glass has completed the fabrication and installation of more than 330 aluminium windows as part of the residential conversion of the former Blind Veterans Hospital in Ovingdean, Brighton.

The prestigious building has undergone a complete renovation, transforming the landmark site into high specification apartments. The new aluminium windows form distinctive ribbon features around the building, helping to frame stunning views across both the English Channel and the South Downs.

A wide range of window types were required across the scheme. Each opening was fully surveyed, with the windows fabricated by Harlow Glass’ specialist suppliers to meet the client’s brief for a robust, high-performing system suited to the demands of the building.

As part of the works, Harlow Glass also delivered integration with the building’s fire safety systems, incorporating Automatic Opening Vents (AOVs) to corridor areas while ensuring the windows maintained a consistent appearance across the project, regardless of their function.

To complement the window installation, matching residential doors were supplied and fitted to various terraces around the development. Faceted bay windows were also installed to upgrade the architectural stairwells, while the feature glazed curtain wall to the main staircase received a full refurbishment, including replacement glazing and new curtain wall capping in a powder coated finish to match the windows.

The completed installation provides a high-quality, coordinated glazing package that supports the building’s transformation while enhancing its architectural character and exceptional coastal setting.
