Harlow Glass recently completed the installation of a new commercial curtain walling frontage at 183-203 Old Street in London, encompassing full design development, fabrication, and installation services. The project's design concept emphasized minimal framing and expansive areas of glass, reflecting a strict industrial aesthetic in collaboration with the project architects.

A bespoke design featuring exposed connections to a steel primary structure was meticulously developed and approved. During fabrication, a comprehensive survey was conducted to account for variations in the existing structure, with careful detailing around new additions.

Access to the units was facilitated by automatic commercial sliding doors integrated with access controls, minimizing internal sight lines by integrating the auto-mechanism into the frame. External signage was strategically achieved through bespoke fixing points integrated into the curtain walling, allowing for future adaptability and relocation as needed. Additionally, a tailored fireproofing detail was developed in consultation with building control to achieve necessary fire breaks at party wall junctions between commercial units.

The installation phase was meticulously planned to coordinate delivery and fitting of frames and glass, navigating through public spaces and accommodating the ongoing operation of existing retail units. Strict adherence to health and safety measures ensured minimal disruption, resulting in a successful installation completed on budget.
