Harlow Glass was tasked with fabricating and installing glass panels for two lift shafts in the newly refurbished Hackney Town Hall. The project demanded close design coordination with the steelwork contractor, allowing for the pre-fabrication of laminated glass panels that precisely aligned with the steel framework. Open collaboration with the main contractor ensured a seamless installation around surrounding finishes.

Custom-designed glass clamps were used to secure the laminated panels in place, with a silicon seal applied between them for a clean, secure fit. Due to the pre-fabricated steelwork, the installation required extreme precision and tight tolerances. Additionally, the panels were integrated with the lift installation at the interface with the lower floor doors.

As the building remained operational throughout the works, strict health and safety standards had to be met.

Since its completion, this project has won several prestigious awards, including the RIBA London Regional Award and the New London Awards in the Conservation & Retrofit category. It has also been shortlisted and commended in numerous other award programs.
