Harlow Glass Develop a Custom Laminated Feature Glass to Meet Architects Design.
Harlow Glass have now completed a fully bespoke installation including the development, manufacture and installation of laminated feature glass mesh panels. The high end design intent mocked up in the design stage by the architects PLP Architecture required full development to production scale by Harlow Glass to achieve the design intent, on behalf of the main contractor MACE. This required close liaison with mesh suppliers including Cadisch MDA to ensure a process of powder coating to a tight palette of 12 white/grey shades could be achieved. This process included a site visit with the main contractor and architect to the factory in Italy along with observing the laminating process.
Through a rigorous development process the powder coating and laminating processes were combined to ensure a first in glass laminating of providing a thin gauge, coloured mesh within the glass panels. This was then combined with a matching back painted treatment to one set of panels, while leaving the second set of panels transparent to allow vision through the mesh. The end result was 800 individual panels of glass in a combination of colours installed safely by Harlow Glass within the buildings feature entrance hall. This included panels fitted at 8 meters high, panels cantilevered from the walls, panels with two types of mesh and even panels where the mesh and painting was shaped and cut around the vision panels in doors!!
Additional panels were also supplied to KONE lifts which utilised the mesh supplied by Cadisch MDA in its raw machined form. This again had tight quality control requirements which were fully managed by Harlow Glass throughout the project. This internal design development and management service can benefit main contractors in providing architects and clients with their design intent safe in the knowledge that Harlow Glass are in complete control of the service. Without the need to outsource the import knowledge and relationships built up during the detailed design process we can ensure a seamless, and high impact end result.
Oh….. and did we mention the huge glass “Feature X” behind the reception desk, fully sourced and installed by Harlow Glass to replicate the external finish of the building. The panels within this wall had a maximum height of 4.6m with a total weight of 580kg, all installed safely and within the required tolerances of the Architects. By providing this ability we prevented the main contractor needing to split the glass works package, giving single point control and accountability.
The building is now fully open, with some great restaurants and bars around the ground floor, why not pop into the entrance hall to see Harlow Glass in action first hand!! And contact us today to discuss development and installation of your projects architectural glass.
